A restaurant in Abu Dhabi, Evergreen, has been closed indefinitely after bugs were found in the kitchen. Health inspectors issued three warnings before closing the restaurant.
According to details, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has said in a statement that Evergreen Vegetarian Restaurant Branch 3 in Al Dhafra has been closed on Monday after the restaurant violated health and safety regulations for the fourth time.
“The Evergreen Restaurant was warned several times by the UAE health authorities. The restaurant failed to clean the food storage area and insects were found in several places, which could pose a health risk to customers.”
The UAE Food Safety Authority further stated that the decision to close the Evergreen restaurant was a result of repeated high-risk items and the facility’s failure to enforce food safety requirements.
The statement added that bugs were found on the sink and in an area where kitchen utensils were kept and ready-to-eat food was not stored at a safe temperature. Also, the restaurant’s refrigerator was not cooling the food efficiently.
The officials of the health department further said in their statement that three notices were issued against the restaurant due to the poor level of hygiene in food preparation and storage areas. Despite successive inspections by food inspectors, the concerns regarding food health and safety requirements were not taken seriously.
The restaurant will remain closed indefinitely until the issues are resolved. To protect public health, inspectors make regular visits to restaurants in the emirate and ensure that restaurants comply with food safety requirements. The public has been asked to report any violation by calling 800555.
