The last phone call of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed

Benazir Bhutto made a last telephone call to CNN Pakistan senior correspondent and producer Mohsin Naqvi on the day of her martyrdom.

She made that call while visiting Liaquat Bagh on the day of her martyrdom on December 27, 2007. Naheed Khan was also present at that time.

Anchor Geo News Sohail Waraich has disclosed that 17-and-a-half-minute conversation in his book ‘Qatil Kon’ as follows.

According to Mohsin Naqvi, Ms. Benazir Bhutto was in a very happy mood, the conversation started with reference to the expected attendance of the Rawalpindi rally.

Mohsin Naqvi told Bibi Shaheed that he went to Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi along with Naheed Khan and Dr. Safdar Abbasi until late at night a day ago and watched the arrangements. The Rawalpindi rally would be very successful.

Discussing Peshawar situation, Mohsin Naqvi added that the atmosphere of fear among the voters of KPK province had been removed and it would have a positive effect on the election results.

Benazir Bhutto also inquired from Mohsin Naqvi that ‘how many seats will PPP get?’ On which Mohsin Naqvi replied that People’s Party would form the government easily.

Discussing Punjab situation, Mohsin Naqvi suggested that:

‘if Bibi visits Lahore, the results of 2 or 3 constituencies may improve and PPP may even win 3 seats’.

According to Mohsin Naqvi, some guests were coming from America in the next few days. They were to negotiate with the government regarding the general elections. Mohsin Naqvi also warned Bibi about her security. Bibi said in reply that “I will not do politics out of fear”.

Mohsin Naqvi was supposed to meet Bibi at night after the meeting, the time was fixed in the conversation, in the meantime Benazir Bhutto reached the meeting place.

Benazir Bhutto told Mohsin Naqvi that ‘we have reached Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi’ and with that she cut the call.
